(SAMOA) — Rev. Fuata'i Simanu opened Zone A's Rugby 15s season with a word of prayer, reminding young rugby players to emulate Christian soldiers when on the field.

Rev. Simanu is leader of the EFKS Church in Satalo, Falealili.

He read from the Holy Bible, urged good sportsmanship and offered a word of prayer during opening ceremonies.

He told the young men to behave as Christian soldiers on and off the field and prayed for a safe successful season for all athletes, parents, teachers, schools and teams.

(SAMOA) — Shields have been introduced in Zone A's six-week Rugby 15-a-side competition with Avele winning the U-15 and U-17 shields and Leifiifi the U-19 on opening day of the 2018 season.

Avele College took the U-15 shield after they defeated Leifiifi 15-5.

Avele's U-17 squad beat Falealili College by two points, the game ending 5-3 Fulltime.

Leifiifi College defeated Samoa College 29-18 to claim the U-19 shield.

The Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture opened its 2018 Rugby 15-a-side tournament Thursday, March 8.

(SAMOA) — Leiififi College's netball squad begins the 2018 season looking sharp in new sports gear, gifted to the school from the Saints Netball Club based in Christchurch, New Zealand.

"The girls are so happy the uniforms fit them well," said Leifiifi Principal Sefuiva Malaea Lauano. "We'd like to express our faafetai tele lava for the gift. The girls look nice in their uniforms."
