Ifilele from Fagaloa for Zone A U-17 Shield

(SAMOA) — The U-17 Shield for Zone A's Rugby 15s is a carving of Ifilele wood from Fagaloa, handcrafted by instructors at Leifiifi College.

Visual Arts Teacher Jeremy Filo and Design Tech Teacher Andy Pula collaborated on the project.

Coaches for Leifiifi are: Reupena Levasa, Neru Leifi, Faafuaina Samuelu, Taleni Tufuga (Sports Master), Filo and Pula.

Leifiifi College Principal Sefuiva Malaea Lauano said the Ifilele it durable and should last 20 years.

The U-17 shield is currently in the possession of Avele College.

On behalf of Sefuiva, Leifiifi faculty and students, it was presented to the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture at opening ceremonies held at Leifiifi Thursday, March 8.

Rev. Fuata'i Simanu of the EFKS Church, Satalo, Falealili and MESC Minister Loau Keneti Sio opened the games.

Avele won the U-17 shield when they beat Falealili College by a slim two points, 5-3 on Day 1 of the six-week competition.
