(SAMOA) — Minister of Education, Sports and Culture Loau Keneti Sio told rugby players to mind their behaviour, saying he does not want to hear about sports rivals "fighting at the market."

Loau spoke when he joined Zone A to open their 15-a-side rugby season Thursday, March 8 at Leifiifi College Field.

"Rugby is a contact sport," he said. "E faafetoai lou tino ma le isi ali'i. You must prepare your body and mind."

In rugby, as in any sport such as soccer, volleyball and ping pong, Loau said athletes must prepare physically and mentally.

"You must prepare in every aspect," he advised. "And you've got to be honest with yourself."

Loau told the young men to exercise sportsmanship, adding he does not want to hear about "fighting at the market like last year."

He emphasized they must remember their fathers whose names they carry on and off the rugby field.

Participating Zone A rugby teams are: Avele College, Vaimauga College, Falealili College, Palalaua College, Leifiifi College and Samoa College.

The Sports, Education and Culture Minister wished blessings upon the reverend, student-athletes, teachers and supporters, closing his remarks with "God bless!"
