Thirty-one student athletes signed Letters of Intent in Hawaii on a National Signing Day event hosted by the Pacific Islands Athletic Alliance. PIAA, headed by Doris Sullivan, is a 501c3 non-profit organization that exclusively assists student-athletes from the Aloha State and American Samoa in finding and securing collegiate sports scholarships. The early signing took place at the Elks Club (Lodge No. 616) in Waikiki.

Two (perhaps more) of the athletes who signed are of Samoan descent: Waimea High School’s Gaylan Matagiese who will play softball for the University of Hawaii and Mid-Pacific Institute’s Isiah Kiner-Falefa who signed to play baseball for San Jose State.

PIAA will host two additional signings this school year: Feb. 6, 2013 at the Sheraton Waikiki and on Apr. 17, 2013 at the Elks Club. PIAA is in the planning stages of hosting football and soccer combines in American Samoa March 2013.

May 18, 2012, PIAA hosts its bi-annual coaches’ clinic with coaches from around the U.S. and on May 25, the non-profit organization hosts its Annual Under Armour High School Combine. PIAA is the only non-profit organization like it in the United States.

Here is a complete list of students who signed Nov. 14, 2012. (Note: one student was not physically present for the signing. The actual total number of student-athletes scheduled to sign Nov. 14, was 32.)
