  • (SAMOA, Calif.) — A special 90-minute Adopt-A-Highway clean-up at the Samoa Peninsula in Humboldt, Calif. is among the many events that will mark Earth Day 2018, Sunday, April 22.

    The event is hosted by the Humboldt Chapter of the Pacific Outfitters Green Team, a group of outdoor enthusiasts whose claim to fame is being "The Home of the 60-minute Weekly Clean-up!"

    They carry out brief, consistent clean-ups throughout the year.

  • (SAMOA) — The Samoa Police Service reminds the public that marijuana is illegal, announcing eight arrests made during a raid at the Savalalo Flea Market on the morning of Friday, April 20.

    Of the eight who were arrested, six were charged with possession of narcotics, states the SPS Facebook page.

    "A concerning number...have addressed the issue of marijuana being sold at the flea market...and pose a risk to the youth of Samoa," say police.

  • (SAMOA) — The U-17 Shield for Zone A's Rugby 15s is a carving of Ifilele wood from Fagaloa, handcrafted by instructors at Leifiifi College.

    Visual Arts Teacher Jeremy Filo and Design Tech Teacher Andy Pula collaborated on the project.

    Coaches for Leifiifi are: Reupena Levasa, Neru Leifi, Faafuaina Samuelu, Taleni Tufuga (Sports Master), Filo and Pula.

    Leifiifi College Principal Sefuiva Malaea Lauano said the Ifilele it durable and should last 20 years.

    The U-17 shield is currently in the possession of Avele College.

  • (SAMOA) — The proposal by government for seasonal workers to be eligible for permanent residency — (under the New Zealand 1,100 annual quota for Samoans) — is on the table for future bilateral talks.

  • (SAMOA) — Minister of Education, Sports and Culture Loau Keneti Sio told rugby players to mind their behaviour, saying he does not want to hear about sports rivals "fighting at the market."

    Loau spoke when he joined Zone A to open their 15-a-side rugby season Thursday, March 8 at Leifiifi College Field.

    "Rugby is a contact sport," he said. "E faafetoai lou tino ma le isi ali'i. You must prepare your body and mind."

    In rugby, as in any sport such as soccer, volleyball and ping pong, Loau said athletes must prepare physically and mentally.

  • (SAMOA) — Rev. Fuata'i Simanu opened Zone A's Rugby 15s season with a word of prayer, reminding young rugby players to emulate Christian soldiers when on the field.

    Rev. Simanu is leader of the EFKS Church in Satalo, Falealili.

    He read from the Holy Bible, urged good sportsmanship and offered a word of prayer during opening ceremonies.

    He told the young men to behave as Christian soldiers on and off the field and prayed for a safe successful season for all athletes, parents, teachers, schools and teams.

  • (SAMOA) — Shields have been introduced in Zone A's six-week Rugby 15-a-side competition with Avele winning the U-15 and U-17 shields and Leifiifi the U-19 on opening day of the 2018 season.

    Avele College took the U-15 shield after they defeated Leifiifi 15-5.

    Avele's U-17 squad beat Falealili College by two points, the game ending 5-3 Fulltime.

    Leifiifi College defeated Samoa College 29-18 to claim the U-19 shield.
